Google Tag Manager & Google Analytics 4
We use Google Tag Manager (GTM) to manage our analytics and marketing tags, and Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to analyze website traffic. With your consent, these services set the following cookies:
- _ga — Distinguishes unique users (2 years)
- _ga_<container-id> — Persists session state (2 years)
- _gid — Distinguishes users (24 hours)
- _gat — Throttles request rate (1 minute)
- _gac_<property-id> — Campaign-related information (90 days)
We have implemented Google Consent Mode v2, which means:
- No tracking cookies are set until you provide consent
- If you deny consent, Google uses cookieless pings for basic measurement
- Your IP address is anonymized before being sent to Google

YouTube (Privacy-Enhanced Mode)
We embed YouTube videos using the privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). This means YouTube does not store cookies on your device unless you interact with the video player. When you play a video, YouTube may set the following cookies:
- VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE — Estimates bandwidth (180 days)
- YSC — Tracks views of embedded videos (session)
- PREF — Stores user preferences (8 months)
- GPS — Unique identifier for tracking (30 minutes)
Web Fonts
Our typography uses fonts from the Google Fonts library, but the font files are downloaded at build time and served directly from our own domain. Your browser never contacts Google's font servers, so no IP address or request data is shared with Google for fonts, and no cookies are set.
PunchUp (Tour Dates & Ticketing)
Tour dates on this site are sourced from PunchUp. The dates themselves are fetched when the site is built, so browsing this page sets no PunchUp cookies. When you click through to buy tickets you are redirected to PunchUp, which has its own privacy policy and may set cookies.
Substack (Newsletter Signup)
The newsletter signup on our home page and in our popup is Substack's own form, shown in a frame from bethstelling.substack.com. When that form loads, Substack may set the following cookies on substack.com, whatever you have chosen in our cookie banner:
- ab_testing_id and ab_experiment_sampled — Substack's product testing (1 year)
- __cf_bm — Cloudflare bot protection for Substack (30 minutes)
Many browsers block cookies set inside frames from other sites, in which case these are not stored. If you subscribe, Substack's own privacy policy applies.
Shopify (Merch Store)
Socks, cards and stickers on our merch page are sold through Shopify's Buy Button. When that page loads, Shopify's script runs and sets the following on your device, whatever you have chosen in our cookie banner, because the store widget does not support consent controls:
- _shopify_y and _y — Identify a returning visitor to Shopify (2 years)
- _shopify_s and _s — Identify a shopping session (30 minutes)
- <store>.checkoutId — Remembers your cart between visits (localStorage, until you check out or clear it)
Shopify also receives which products you view and add to your cart. Checkout happens on Shopify's own site, which sets its own cookies. These are not set on any other page of this website. To avoid them, don't visit the merch page or block cookies for this site in your browser.

Our website contains links to external sites including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Spotify, and our merchandise store. These sites have their own privacy policies and cookie practices. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites.
